Celebrate the Epiphany feast by making your very own star
Crafting homemade Christmas decorations doesn’t have to end on Christmas Day. For the feast of the Epiphany on January 6, you can make decorations over the Christmas break and have them ready for this celebration.
The three wise men found their way to Bethlehem by following a star which is a popular symbol for the feast. So this pop-up star is the perfect decoration to make! Once you have mastered the star, you can continue every day until January 6 (Little Christmas).
For each star, you will need an A4 piece of paper and a pair of scissors.
Lay the sheet of paper down in front of you horizontally and fold in half.
Step one: Fold the left corner down to the centre of the edge at the bottom.
Step two: Fold the lower left corner across the diagonal edge.
Step three:Fold the corner at the top right over the diagonal edge made from the last step.
Step four:Cut the off the end, making the snip from the open side of the triangle.
Step five:Unfold the paper. You should now have a star with light creases running from the points to the centre including light creases in between each point. Crease these folds and once they are folded your star will pop up on its own. Repeat these steps on plain or patterned paper.
You can make larger stars using the same method on A3 or A2 paper or tiny ones using A5 and A6 paper. Use thicker origami paper for making the large stars. Pierce holes through the top of the smallest stars and thread through some string or ribbon for a garland. Cut shorter lengths of ribbon to loop through so you can hang them individually.
