Dear Editor, I was dismayed when I heard the announcement in Church on January 5 last that the local primary school would reopen the next day, the feast of the Epiphany, a Holy Day of obligation. The dismay was turned to joy on January 6 when I observed the children being ferried to the Church in buses – the day was very cold. Their presence boosted the congregation and they made the feast a joyful one as they sang in their conducted choir. A lot of those children would not be there at all if they had a day off from school. Take a bow, clever thinkers.
Yours etc.,
Cathleen Shortall,
