Abortion question is a simple one

Dear Sir, Donal O’Driscoll’s letter in The Irish Catholic (‘Clarify meaning of Eighth Amendment’, IC 28/07/2011) should be read, and acted upon, by all pro-life groups, and indeed by all who wish to protect the life of the unborn.  He has identified a very important issue.

There is no doubt that we will soon be faced with a referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment. There is one way, and only one way, in which the amendment can be protected. That is by convincing the electorate, which will have the final say, that the sole purpose of repeal of the amendment is to further legalise the killing of babies in Ireland.

We must not allow the advocates of abortion to set the agenda.  The issue is simple and we should stick to it.  Should it be lawful to kill a baby? Other arguments are peripheral.  To spend time on them is a waste of time, effort and money.

Yours etc.,

Frank Murphy,

Sligo, C. Sligo.
