Achonry parishes unite in Confession

‘The light is on’ initiative takes place on Palm Sunday

All the parish churches in the Diocese of Achonry will have the lights on and the welcome mat out for parishioners this Palm Sunday, in a diocesan initiative to attract people to Confession.

‘The light is on’ was first launched last year in a cluster of six parishes in the diocese to encourage people to avail of Confession during the Lenten period.

Following the success of the initiative last Holy Week and again at Christmas, all the 23 parishes of the diocese are taking part this month.

Diocesan spokesperson, Fr Vincent Sherlock said parishes are busy promoting the initiative at the moment and that a “great sense of solidarity” is building up in the diocese with “a sense that we are all on own hymn sheet”.

Bishop Brendan Kelly will join the priests of the diocese to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Palm Sunday, April 13 from 5-6pm.
