Primate of All-Ireland Archbishop Eamon Martin will address the challenges facing the family in modern Ireland at The Irish Catholic national conference later this month.
It will be the archbishop’s first major address on the issue since he participated with Pope Francis in the worldwide Synod of Bishops on the family in the Vatican last year.
During that synod there was controversy around issues like Holy Communion for divorced and remarried Catholics and the Church’s outreach to gay Catholics.
Archbishop Eamon will speak on ‘Pope Francis: the synod and the future of the family in Ireland’ in Dublin’s Red Cow Hotel on Saturday January 30 as part of the conference.
The Pope is expected to pen a document later this year deciding whether some of the more controversial synod proposals should be adopted. The speakers at the all-day event will include Baroness Nuala O’Loan, Breda O’Brien, David Quinn, Bairbre Cahill and Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown.
The conference will also include a roundtable discussion and opportunity for questions and answers chaired by RTÉ presenter Audrey Carville.
Tickets for the event are available at the special early bird price of €25 now on www.irishcatholic.ie or by calling The Irish Catholic on (01) 687.4095 or (00353 1) 687 4095 from NI).
