The Irish College in Rome is to have its numbers significantly boosted with the announcement that 15 seminarians from Saint John Vianney College (SJV) Seminary in Minnesota are to transfer to Rome for the completion of their formation studies. The Board of Trustees of the Irish College, chaired by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin of Dublin, approved the transfer at its June meeting.
“The presence of these United States’ seminarians will enrich and consolidate the seminary community in the Pontifical Irish College,” Archbishop Martin said.
The 15 young men will now join with both the Irish seminarians and the international community of postgraduate priests who live at the Irish College. Established in 1968, SJV is the largest college seminary in the US. Each year, more than 120 men representing 20 dioceses discern a vocation to the priesthood there.
