Dear Editor, Has Amnesty International Ireland lost its way? This is the question I asked myself when I recently looked into their campaign for Asia Bibi the Pakistani Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy. There is no mention of her case more recently than November of last year when they made one mention of her on Twitter. In contrast they have mentioned their campaign against Ireland’s abortion laws at least 55 times alone on Twitter. Even in human rights abuse cases they do mention they are very few compared to their campaign against Ireland’s abortion laws.
In recent years Amnesty Ireland has morphed from a group focusing on human rights into another domestic abortion rights organisation. This is very disappointing.
Yours etc.,
Liam Foley,
