Dear Editor, It’s clear now that the purpose of the proposed ‘Citizens’ Assembly’, to be chosen by a polling company, is to remove the protections of the Eighth Amendment for the unborn. This unelected, unnecessary ‘assembly’ is a political fig-leaf, designed to give political cover to politicians who desire the destruction of Ireland’s constitutional protections for unborn human beings.
We have just elected a citizens’ assembly called the Dáil, whose members are directly answerable to the Irish people, to discuss and decide policy democratically. We don’t need another expensive, unelected one.
The Irish media, pro-abortion as it is, will of course cheerlead for removal of the Eighth, just as surely as they completely and deliberately failed to report the scandal of Planned Parenthood selling aborted baby parts for profit. Our UK neighbours have 200,000 abortions now per year, with 90% of Downs babies aborted. Ireland’s political and media abortion cheerleaders are now conditioning Ireland to accept similar here.
Yours etc.,
Oliver Maher,
Harolds Cross, Dublin 6W.
