Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín TD this week submited the Protection of Children (Online Pornographic Material) Bill 2019 to the Dáil. This Bill aims to make the online provision of pornography to children illegal.

According to Mr Tóibín: “The proliferation of pornography in just the last few years in Ireland has been immense.

“Today eight and nine years olds have access to hardcore explicit materials that would have been illegal to be viewed by adults just a generation ago,” he said.

Research at the School of Psychology, NUI Galway has shown that almost 60% of teenage boys living in Ireland see porn before the age of 13.

“Our Bill will force the Government to make regulations that ensure that children in the State cannot view pornographic material on the internet,” Mr Tóibín said.
