Fr Binoy Mathew SVD and a team of volunteers from Arklow parish in Co. Wicklow reached out to over 90 primary and secondary schools in the Wicklow deanery to promote the Creative Spirit initiative. The aim of the project was to get students engaged with the scriptures by running a series of competitions including art, bookmark, poetry, short story for primary schools and art, collage and film for secondary schools.
During evening Mass in the parish earlier this month, led by Fr Pat Byrne, Provincial of Divine Word Missionaries and concelebrated by Canon Martin Cosgrove, Moderator Arklow Group of Parishes and Fr Binoy Mathew SVD co-PP, all the winners and their families were welcomed to receive their prizes.
Also awarded on the night were the prizes for the Inter-Secondary Schools Bible Quiz 2016. This is the fourth round for this competition brought about to encourage students to engage with the Bible and to familiarise them in the various books in the Bible.
