Dear Editor, The 10 Commandments are a list of religious and moral rules that were given to us by God through Moses. If you look up the term ‘commandment’ in the dictionary you will find “a rule or instruction to be observed as strictly as one of the 10 Commandments”. The commandments that God gave us were 10 authoritive rules that we should obey strictly in order to have a content and peaceful life.
The 10 Commandments are the instruction book given by God himself to mankind. When we buy a new device the first thing we do is read the instruction book cover to cover in order to understand the rules on how to use the device properly. If we follow the instructions carefully our device will run smoothly and last a lifetime. If we do not follow the instructions then our device will not run to its best ability and will run into difficulties.
During this special Year of Mercy wouldn’t it be a great idea to bring back the 10 commandments and teach them to our children at home, at school and at church?
Take Ireland for instance – the increase in crime, drugs and immorality over the past 20 years has been astonishing. We have all lost our way. It’s time to pull together and remedy the situation and the first step in doing this is to bring back the 10 Commandments.
So let us all do it together – priest, parents, grandparents and teachers. Let us teach our children the rules and benefits of living by the 10 Commandments. Let us begin today and let Ireland be an example to the rest of the world.
Yours etc.,
Anne & Sheila O’Sullivan,
