Bishop Monahan to join ‘Mercy on the Mall’

Bishop Fintan Monahan of Killaloe will join priests of his diocese for this year’s Mercy on the Mall event at Shannon’s Skycourt Shopping Centre on December 8.

Now in its second year, and building on the warm reaction from shoppers in 2015, Mercy on the Mall will take place from prime shopping time of 1pm to 6pm, offering visitors the chance to avail of the Sacrament of Confession or for an informal chat with one of the 20 attending priests.

Initially a project launched to coincide with the Year of Mercy and in response to the call from Pope Francis to bring the Gospel to the marketplace, the 2015 event proved so attractive to residents of Killaloe that both Skycourt management and the diocesan office were inundated with requests for its continuance in future years.

December 8 will see the attending priests located at different points within Skycourt for those wishing to ‘meet and greet’ their local clergy. In addition, the school choir from St Conaire’s Primary School in Shannon will provide festive music and song.
