Bouncy castles, treasure hunts and barbecues gave Killala a huge boost as they prepare for the biggest event taking place in Ireland this year.
Bishop John Fleming hosted a diocesan Garden Fun Day in the grounds of his house in preparation for the World Meeting of Families (WMOF) next August on June 10.
Families from all over the diocese attended the event with the bishop’s gardens being transformed into a milieu of festivity.
Pizzas were cooked on site in the garden at Killen, which is run by the Carn community, and burgers were turned on a barbecue with hot dogs and skewers provided.
Tea and coffee was served from the bishop’s house and local baking provided delicacies for all involved.
There was a children’s treasure hunt laid out through the trees and every child lined up for face painting – the bouncy castles were also a big hit.
Live music
On stage live music was provided by Chuck Dunford and local children, and Pat’s Country Roadshow.
The local scouts erected tents in the front gardens. And for those with a sweet tooth a chocolate fountain and soft drinks also added to the day.
The World Meeting of Families Committee put a lot of work into organising the event and received great local support on the day from many groups.
The Garda Síochana, Order of Malta, Ballina Lions Club, Ballina Scouts, Karen Community, Newman Institute, Ballina Show Committee, Ballina and Crossmolina Festival Committees and so many more gave of their time.
Killala Diocese were delighted to hold this event as the diocese welcome Pope Francis for the WMOF in Dublin and to Knock in August.
