Br Kevin rejects ‘inaccurate’ funding report

“There is a lot more to the day centre than monetary figures,” according to Br Kevin Crowley of The Capuchin Day Centre

Br Kevin Crowley of The Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin has described as “totally inaccurate” figures contained in a Sunday newspaper of its expenditure on people accessing its services.

As the row around financial top-ups to board members of the Central Remedial Clinic rumbled on, Br Kevin, who has, unpaid, led the Capuchin Day Centre’s activities since its foundation in 1969, pointed out that figures offered in The Sunday Independent last weekend as part of a charities round-up had included clothing to homeless people as an administration cost and made no mention at all of the voluntary aspect to much of the centre’s services.

“There is a lot more to the day centre than monetary figures,” Br Kevin said, listing two dentists, a chiropodist and an optician who work without pay in addition to the army of volunteers who continue to service the needs of hundreds of homeless and vulnerable people attending the centre each day.

“The figures were totally inaccurate,” he said.
