Many parishes took up the call last Sunday to walk to Mass
A campaign calling on Irish Catholics to walk to Sunday Mass in a gesture of solidarity with Iraqís Christians, has been extended following a successful response last weekend.
Many parishes took up the call last Sunday to walk to Mass following an appeal from Fr Robert McCabe, a priest of the Meath diocese, during a ëMass of Solidarityí in Dublin. He encouraged parishioners to leave their cars at home and walk to their parish Masses in solidarity with Iraqi Christians who have been killed or had to flee their homes.
ìWe want to raise awareness of the situation and get it into peopleís hearts and prayers. Irish people have always been generous with charity but a generosity of prayer is also very necessary,î Fr McCabe told The Irish Catholic.
The initiative has been extended to Sunday, September 14 ñ the Exaltation of the Holy Cross ñ and Sunday, September 21 ñ UN World Day of Peace.
