The Catholic Nurses Guild resolved unanimously in May to support the retention of the Eighth Amendment
The Catholic Nurses Guild of Ireland has appealed to their colleagues in the medical field to support the retention of the Eighth Amendment, in order to ensure the “highest standard of care for mothers and babies in Ireland”.
The Catholic Nurses Guild resolved unanimously at its AGM in May to support the retention of the Eighth Amendment, which protects the life of both mother and child.
In a letter to this newspaper, the National President of the guild, Sr Bridge Commins, said “the right to life is sacrosanct irrespective of ability or disability” and “any law which might require the intentional termination of human life either before or after birth even if legal; would not be in accord with the ethical practice of medicine”.
She appealed to “our nursing and midwifery colleagues and all healthcare professionals to support the retention of the Eighth Amendment” to ensure the highest standard of maternity care in the country.
