Nun never woke from coma
A Catholic nun in Malaysia has died of injuries sustained in a mugging.
Sr Julianna Lim (pictured), 68, had lain in a coma for six days after she and another nun were set upon by an attacker wielding a motorcycle helmet in the grounds of the Church of Visitation in Seremban. Both nuns were struck before the assailant made off with Sr Lim’s bag. Though Sr Marie-Rose Teng was later released from hospital, having suffered bruising in the incident, Sr Lim remained in a coma, having apparently been hit on the head by the helmet.
Sr Lim joined the Infant Jesus Novitiate in 1964 and took her final vows as a sister eight years later. Her religious life was served in teaching at various schools in Malaysia catering for poor children.
Prime Minister Najib Razak sent a message of condolence to the nun’s family and the Catholic community on learning of the tragedy.
Police have launched a murder inquiry and are examining CCTV images of a moped rider seen near the nuns just before the attack.
