Dear Editor, I refer to your headline on July 2, “Bishops rebel over Maynooth seminary ‘heave’.”
Catholic seminarians must be sound – doctrinally, morally, spiritually and humanly. They must be scrutinised, by competent authorities, to ensure they, if judged worthy to be ordained, will be integrated and competent servants of the People of God.
It does give concern to observe some students, with a propensity for silk and lace, overly preoccupied with fripperies from a bygone age.
This does not seem healthy and is deserving of investigation by those charged with priestly formation for the long-term good of the entire Church.
Yours etc.,
Fr Patrick McCafferty,
Crossgar, Co. Down.
