Catholic voters in the United States are leaning strongly towards supporting Hillary Clinton in the forthcoming presidential election, according to a new study from the Pew Research Centre on Religion and Public Life.
According to the data, Mrs Clinton is the more positive option over Donald Trump by 56-39% among voting Catholics. Pew points out that Mrs Clinton’s lead is made possible by the overwhelming support she enjoys among Hispanic Catholics, with that community returning a 77-16% favourability for her. Notably, while church-goers generally are divided 49-45% on Donald Trump, this is not reflected among Catholics who attend Mass weekly, where Mrs Clinton again led by 57-38% in favourability.
