Police in Tartarstan have arrested a number of Muslim men in connection with a spate of arsons against Christian churches.
Last week, The Irish Catholic reported on an investigation after the latest attack on a place of worship and the announcement, by President Rustam Minnikhanov, of a one million rubles reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the perpetrators, believed to be responsible for some seven arsons over the last year.
According to reports locally, police have detained members of a Muslim group, identified only as “non-traditional Islamic”. If convicted, the men face up to 20 years in prison.
