Clear thinking needed on removal of Cork reader

Dear Editor, I note that Social Democrat Ken Curtin is dismayed at the fact that his removal as a reader in Cobh Cathedral is being used as grounds to attack the Church (IC 26/05/2016).  I wonder how the media was made aware of this situation and, also, why Mr Curtin was surprised at the action of the Church. Surely he knows the teaching of the Church and, therefore, should have known that supporting something completely against that teaching is certainly not acceptable.

The Word of God does acknowledge that ‘you shall not kill’, so how could he support the removal of the protection in the Constitution under the Eighth Amendment – equal right to life of both mother and baby? It is certainly hypocritical to support something completely contrary to the Word of God and expect to remain as a Minister of the Word. Some clear thinking is required in this situation.

Yours etc.,

Mary Stewart,

Donegal Town.
