Columbans lauded in upcoming environmental documentary

Columbans lauded in upcoming environmental documentary Dalgan Park is the home of the Missionary Society of St Columban in Ireland.

The Columban fathers have received praise for their environmental work and attitudes in an upcoming documentary from Afri.

The organisation’s impending Food Sovereignty documentary saw Bobby Pagusara of Sustainable Development Philippines commend the Columbans on their work of instilling environmental consciousness in the Philippines.

“The Columbans do very good work here in the Philippines. When people hear about the Columban fathers, what will come to their mind is the care for the environment, the care for creation, the care for life, that is very much inculcated in the minds of the people,” Mr Pagusara said.

“It was the effort of the Columban fathers trying patiently to educate the people – the importance of the trees, the importance of the environment, and the connection of our lives to the forest, to the soil, to the water – it was the Columbans who really raised this awareness.”

Mr Pagusara attributed the origins of the movement against illegal logging in the Philippines to the Columban fathers, who preached the importance of environmental protection in their homilies.

“So that’s why the Columbans do very, very good work in the Philippines,” Mr Pagusara said, continuing, “I myself am a product of the Columbans…they sent me to school to study agriculture.

“Still now, I am indebted and connected to the Columbans.”
