Dear Editor, Your article in regard to the Commission on the Protection of Minors (IC 17/03/2016) based on my recent interview with The Irish Catholic, confused two issues about which I had spoken.
One issue was a lack of clarity around future funding of the commission and the other was the refusal by elements of the Roman Curia to implement our proposals despite them being approved by Pope Francis. It was in respect to this latter issue that I made the comments reported in the final paragraphs of your article. Unfortunately all my comments were reported as being in regard to funding.
Resolving funding issues is obviously important for the future work of the commission. However the current refusal of the Vatican bureaucracy to co-operate with the work of the commission is a more immediate problem.
Yours etc.,
Marie Collins,
Dublin 24.
