Dear Editor, Congratulations on the quality of the commemorative 1916 Rising issue of the paper on December 17. I found it highly informative and many articles provided a new perspective on the events of the Rising. I particularly enjoyed the personal accounts from the Dublin archives, the Capuchin friars and the writings of the female rebels.
I think the Rising is a difficult issue from a Catholic point of view because on the one hand it brought violence and death to the country, but on the other hand the rebels were men of faith who truly believed that what they were doing was a noble cause to free the Irish people.
There were many warnings throughout your paper that we should not let the secular agenda hijack the Easter Rising and I do hope that the Irish Church will maintain a presence in the commemorations next year.
Yours etc.,
Jennifer Fahy,
