So many things to make, inspired by a simple snowflake
Create with your own snow this Christmas with these DIY snowflakes. All snowflakes are unique, so make each design distinct by using different materials to craft each one.
Edible snowflakes
Melt white chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a pan of boiling water, making sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Lay a sheet of greaseproof paper out on your work surface. Working quickly, spoon the chocolate into a piping bag and pipe out your snowflake designs. Allow the chocolate to cool before very gently peeling off the paper. While the chocolate is still setting, sprinkle over some edible glitter if you have any. You can make the snowflakes using milk and dark chocolate also.
You can also use this method for royal icing snowflakes. Pipe the design onto greaseproof paper or directly onto a cupcake or a cookie.
Try piping meringues into snowflakes for a festive dessert!
Felt snowflakes
For the felt snowflake, you could create a template including all of the fine details of the snowflake, but this will be tricky to cut out. For something simpler, you can cut out a six point star from the felt and stitch the snowflake design on with embroidery thread in a coordinating colour.
Paper snowflakes
Take an A4 sheet of paper and fold it down to make an isosceles triangle and trim off the excess paper. Fold the triangle into thirds, creasing the paper where you make each fold. Fold the paper in half and then mark with pencil where you want to make your cut outs. Experiment with different designs, using a variation of straight and wavy cuts.
Glitter snowflakes
Make a snowflake the centre of a Christmas card. Using a glue pen, run the glue down the card and sprinkle the glitter on top. Shake off any excess glitter and leave to dry. If using PVA glue, brush the glue on the card in the shape of your desired snowflake and then sprinkle over the glitter.
Crochet snowflakes
Crocheting snowflakes is fun, easy and terribly addictive! Use the finest crochet thread you can get your hands on and a 1.5mm crochet hook. Find some simple patterns and then start developing your own designs.
Explore other ways of crafting snowflakes. Arrange twigs and secure together with twine. Cut a potato in half and carve a snowflake into one half. Dip in ink and use as a stamp.
