A novel way of engaging people during Lent has spread from the Derry diocese to parts of America and Poland.
Lenten Promise Cards were launched by Thornhill Ministries as a way of helping people sustain their efforts throughout Lent by daily undertaking an act of generosity, prayer or fasting.
Following interest from 20 parishes in the Dublin diocese, as well as parishes from Armagh and Dromore, the initiative has now gone international, with orders from Louisiana and Michigan in America, and an order for 10,000 from Poland.
Sr Perpetua McNulty explained that Koordynator Llokalny got in touch from Poland last year, after a Lenten Promise Card had been sent to him by a friend in Ireland, to ask if it was available in Polish.
“Initially he ordered 1,000 and then increased the order to 10,000, with 3,500 for Torun, 1,500 for Warsaw, 4,000 for Krakow and 500 for Wroclaw,” said Sr Perpetua.Cracow and 500 for Wroclaw,” said Sr Perpetua.
