A Derry priest spent a night in hospital after he fell off a roof at his parochial house while trying to make repairs.
Fr Paddy O’Kane, who serves in the Holy Family parish in Derry’s Ballymagroarty, was repairing a hole in a flat roof beside his parochial house at the weekend when he slipped and fell to the ground.
It is believed that the well-known priest fell through the roof and hit his head on impact.
His injuries are not understood to be serious but he was kept in overnight in Altnagelvin Hospital for observation because of the possibility of a head injury.
Fr O’Kane is a popular priest in the diocese and is known for setting up innovative initiatives. He made headlines in the past when he took over a bureau de change in a shopping centre to hear confessions and set up a fund to help young couples pay for their weddings.
