During Lent two schools in Derry City, St Cecilia’s College and St Joseph’s Boys, took part in the Mother Teresa Food Bank Programme; ‘If you can’t feed a hundred people then just feed one’.
The Pantry Food Bank Project was set up in the city over two years ago by local Christian Churches and has been working quietly to support people in need by providing practical help in partnership with local community groups and with the support of The Churches Trust, an interdenominational group.
The students were asked to bring food items to their classrooms and each day to say a prayer written by Blessed Mother Teresa. The idea was to raise awareness with young people of local needs with practical and prayerful support.
