Dublin choir to perform Christmas Oratorio

For the past few weeks, the choir room at the Church of Pope St Pius X has been reverberating with some 60 voices, with rehearsals in full swing for the upcoming performance of the entire Christmas Oratorio by Bach on Sunday, December 21.

The Jubilate Choir was founded in 2010 and its inaugural performance was Bach’s St John Passion on Good Friday 2011.

The Christmas Oratorio recounts the story of the nativity in six cantatas, designed to be performed over six days of the Christmas season.

The Jubilate Choir will be joined by the Orchestra of St Cecilia for this rarely-performed composition.

John Elwes returns to Dublin to sing the role of the Evangelist. Three of Dublin’s rising stars will also perform: Aoife Gibney, soprano, Graham J. Norton, counter-tenor and David Howes, bass.

Tickets (€20) are available through the parish office on 01 4905284.
