Over a hundred people attended the annual ecumenical service at St Colmcille’s Well in Ballycullen, Dublin 16. The theme for the year was ‘We Stand on Holy Ground’ and the speaker for the occasion was Fr Noel Hession OSA.
There was an element of nostalgia surrounding the service this year, due to the impending closure of the Augustinian community in Orlagh. The Augustinian community have been involved with the well since 1920 when the present statue and shrine were installed and blessed.
The ceremony this year included a handing over of responsibility for the annual service to the parish of St Colmcille, Knocklyon, in which the well is situated. The handing over was done by Fr John Byrne OSA from Orlagh to Fr Éanna Ó’hObáin O. Carm, parish priest of Knocklyon.
