Bishop Kevin Doran has announced his intention to establish a Diocesan Council for Marriage and the Family.
The Bishop of Elphin told The Irish Catholic the idea for such a council “arises particularly at the moment because of the need to engage in some form of pastoral response following from the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia and in preparation for the World Meeting of Families in 2018”.
“At this stage I have just identified the need and am beginning to consider what shape it should take,” he said.
Dr Doran said the key meeting of families, which will be held in Dublin in 2018, was a “valuable opportunity which should not be missed, to deepen our understanding of the vocation of Christian marriage and to renew the pastoral energy of the Church for supporting family life”.
“I hope that, by September, we will be able to develop a set of resources which will help parish communities to reflect prayerfully and practically on the message of Pope Francis, and its implications for pastoral practice in our diocese,” he said.
