There has been “a huge reservoir of enthusiasm” for this weekend’s National Eucharistic Congress, according to Elphin’s Bishop Kevin Doran.
Speculating that this passion has its roots in the 2012 International Eucharistic Congress, Dr Doran says there’s a striking contrast between the run-in to the Dublin congress, when “people asked whether it was a good time” and that for this year’s event in Knock. “This time people are asking how they can get involved in the liturgy and to help with volunteering,” he told The Irish Catholic, “and there’s a whole energy around it which I’m very pleased with.
“We always said the Eucharistic Congress was part of a journey, not just that an event,” he said, adding that “over the last couple of years since the last congress, various dioceses would have run annual events of one kind of another”, with such dioceses as Meath, Ossory, and his own Elphin “unpacking the fruits of the Congress since 2012”.
