Faith schools face off for Jack Kavanagh cause

Major rugby match planned in a bid to raise funds Jack Kavanagh, who broke his neck in a swimming accident in 2012

Faith schools are to face off in major rugby match next week in a bid to raise much needed funds to assist former lifeguard and windsurfer Jack Kavanagh, who broke his neck in a swimming accident in 2012.

Four days after this year’s Leinster schools final, a combined team from Jesuit colleges Clongowes Wood, Belvedere and Gonzaga will join forces to face the best players from Spiritan schools including Blackrock, St Michael’s, St Mary’s and Templeogue, with proceeds going to the Jack Kavanagh Trust.

Similar charity matches were played in 1999 for Donal O’Flynn, and again in 2003/2004 for Philip Quinlan, when current Irish stars Rob Kearneyand Johnny Sextontogged out.

Former lifeguard and windsurfer Jack Kavanagh was paralysed from the chest down after a swimming accident in August, 2012. Despite this, he returned to his pharmacy studies at Trinity College last September.
