The Church of the Sacred Heart in Donnybrook, Dublin, was awash with colour in marking its 150th anniversary last weekend.
In addition to a photographic exhibition of the life of the parish across the years, organisers hosted a ‘Journey through Christian Donnybrook’ which saw a guided tour for some 130 people to churches of all denominations through the parish.
Herbert Park played host to lighter events of the weekend, with face-painting for children, raffles and refreshments for all.
Masses across the weekend included one led by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and, for the children’s Mass on Sunday morning, by Bishop Kevin Doran, a former priest of the parish.
Hailing a “very successful event” John Holohan, chair of the 150th Anniversary organising committee said the parish is now geared up for a year of celebration, to include a concert organised by children from all primary schools in the area, while the Sacred Heart will be the focus of this year’s Christmas Eve Mass broadcast by RTÉ.
