The Far East magazine is 100

Ireland’s oldest Catholic mission magazine is celebrating 100 years of continuous publication this month. The Far East magazine was first published in January 1918 by the Missionary Society of St Columban, originally known as the Maynooth Mission to China.

Marking the event, the magazine is running two competitions for would-be journalists aged 15 to 18 – one in Ireland, the other in Britain.  Articles or video reports on ‘Migrants Are Our Neighbours’ must be submitted by February 8, 2018 and will be judged by The Irish Catholic editor Michael Kelly, Irish Independent editor Fionnán Sheahan, Patsy McGarry of the Irish Times and migrants’ rights campaigner Bobby Gilmore SSC.

Winners will be announced on March 15 with former President of Ireland, Dr Mary McAleese presenting prizes on June 29.
