Former apostolic nuncio to Ireland, US Archbishop Charles Brown [pictured], has been appointed as the new apostolic nuncio to the Philippines.
The Pope transferred Archbishop Brown from his current role as apostolic nuncio to Albania, to head the Vatican’s diplomatic mission to the Philippines in Manila.
The post in the Philippines has been vacant since November 2019, when the Pope transferred Italian Archbishop Gabriele Giordano Caccia to the United Nations in New York, as head of the Holy See’s Permanent Observer mission.
In November 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed then-Fr Brown as papal nuncio to Ireland, raising him to the position of archbishop. Archbishop Brown spent five years in this role before his departure in 2017.
