Dear Editor, The call by Pope Francis (pictured) for forgiveness for the evil committed by some priests, is another example of how perceptive he is in showing real leadership in addressing the scandal of child abuse, by putting in place processes to ensure such failures of governance are not repeated; such as the high level group which includes the abuse victim Marie Collins, and importantly by publicly stating the it is only some priests who have committed evil acts, so defended the reputation of the vast majority of priests who live their vocation faithfully.
Arguably the Catholic Church’s failures are one of corporate governance and like any other organisation, it too must supervise and support its staff.
