Boxing champ Anthony Joshua’s mother skipped her son’s world title fight at the weekend, opting instead to stay at home and pray for his safety.

Rather than cheering her son on as he challenged Charles Martin for the IBF heavyweight title in front of a 20,000 crowd at London’s O2 Arena, Yeta Odusanya remained at home saying a simple prayer.

Speaking ahead of the bout, the new heavyweight champion of the world said he wouldn’t let his mother attend the boxing match.

“It’s no place for a mum – well, for my mum, anyway. It’s tough.

“She will wait for a text and then catch up on it later. While she waits for that text, she will spend the time praying for me to come back healthy,” he said.

The British boxer has previously spoken about his own prayer life and tweeted about starting his day in prayer.
