The Pro-Cathedral in Dublin are gearing up for a major concert fundraiser to help alleviate homelessness in the country.
Kicking off on December 17, musicians such as Red Hurley, Linda Martin, Cliona Hagan, Anna Kearney and boys and girls of the cathedral choirs will be performing, with further guests to be announced.
Organiser Orla Kearney, Financial Secretary in the Pro-Cathedral, said: “The fact that I work in the Pro-Cathedral every morning as I’m coming around the building in the car I’m actually counting the number of the people on the plinth lying in sleeping bags, it really is daunting when you come in.
“Most of the people I speak to, they’re homeless because of difficult financial situations, because maybe they’ve emigrated over here and they didn’t get the job they thought they would or their qualifications aren’t recognised. It’s just so difficult.”
Proceeds
She added that two years ago they did a similar fundraiser for the Capuchin Day Centre. This year proceeds will go towards the Peter McVerry Trust and Dog’s Aid.
They hope to attract 900 people and raise up to €20,000. The event takes place at 7.30pm.
