More Irish people leaving labour force

People of working age are far less likely to have a job the further they are from Dublin according to Social Justice Ireland’s quarterly Employment Monitor for March 2018.

Ireland’s labour market participation rate has fallen from 67.4% to 62.2% in the last decade whereas the UK has a participation rate of nearly 79%, the report noted.

“The proportion of people of working age in the regions further away from Dublin that have jobs has fallen by far more than on the eastern side of the country since the financial crisis,” said SJI director Fr Seán Healy.
