Dear Editor, In relation to your editorial “Is the Church here finished” (IC 13/11/2014) you highlighted the inadequacies of both the liberal and conservative Church commentators’ response, but the importance of Pope Francis’s call to be a missionary Church rooted in prayer and faith in Christ and his message.
I think most Catholics would welcome this approach but need inspired leaders within Christian communities to develop their confidence to engage honestly with what their faith means and how to nurture it. Superficiality may be at the core of why the secular agenda fits most comfortably for us within our western lifestyle. The Christian message, if answered, has the potential to significantly disrupt how we live our day-to-day lives.
Yours etc.,
Frank Browne, Templeogue, Dublin 16.
