Jesuit Centre in Galway hosts women’s spirituality course

The course focuses on the lives of women in the Bible as well as contemporary figures of inspiration and spiritual strength

The Galway Jesuit Centre for Spirituality and Culture is to host a series of five evenings on women’s spirituality called ‘Drawing Hope from the Well’.

The course focuses on the lives of women in the Bible as well as contemporary figures of inspiration and spiritual strength.  Each night features the life of a woman from Scripture and one from recent times, exploring their vision and desires and the challenges they faced in pursuing their journeys.

This is the third such programme offered by the centre over the last four years and it is run by women for women with over 35 having taken part so far.

According to course organiser Moira McDowall: “Many women live really busy lives working, minding the family, struggling with financial difficulties and making ends meet and it’s hard for us to get a space where we can look at the relevance of spirituality in our lives.

“But the fact is we can learn from women of the Bible and women of today about how to create a sense of peace and even joy in the midst of all the demands and busyness of modern life.”

The meetings will be held monthly, on a Tuesday from 7.30-9.30pm in the Spirituality Centre at 6, Ely Place, Sea Road beginning on Tuesday January 28 .
