Dear Editor, What a strange lapse of judgement to give the front page of your edition of May 26 to such a distasteful report (‘Inappropriate’ behaviour claim robustly dealt with – Maynooth).
An anonymous letter to the bishops’ conference alleging a gay culture in our national seminary hardly merits a mention let alone a tabloid-style front page report. Coming in a week when Pope Francis has announced the World Meeting of Families in Ireland in 2018 surely this provided your front page, instead David Quinn’s excellent article on the subject is relegated to the inner pages while an anonymous allegation merits front page.
In recent times The Irish Catholic has greatly improved and has published some excellent articles, it would be a great pity if this kind of tabloid journalism were to take hold.
Yours etc.,
Fr Philip Curran,
Lucan, Co. Dublin.
