Large crowds expected at Knock for annual Novena

Over 250,000 people from across the island of Ireland are expected to attend the annual National Solemn Novena at Knock Shrine this month, which is celebrating 135 years since the Marian apparition.

The theme this year is ‘Witness to Hope’ and will see two novena sessions daily at 3pm and 8.30pm, and workshops or seminars at 12noon and 6pm daily from August 14-22. There will also be daily Anointing of the Sick, Eucharistic Procession, Benediction, Confession and a Candlelight Rosary Procession, which is an emotional highlight for many pilgrims.

Speakers include Fr Timothy Radcliffe OP on ‘Mary: A witness to hope for today’, Prof. Eamonn Conway on ‘Allowing Pope Francis to disturb us’, Elma Walsh (Donal Walsh’s mother) on ‘Living life to the full’ and the new Bishop of Elphin, Dr Kevin Doran on ‘My hope for the Church’.
