Life Institute criticises ‘hatchet job’ on English abortion pill reversal doctor

An English doctor is under investigation for offering to prescribe abortion pill reversal medication, following an undercover investigation by advocacy group openDemocracy.

Dr Eileen Reilly, who works with US-based organisation Heartbeat International to facilitate women attempting to reverse the effects of the abortion pill, is under investigation by the General Medical Council of Britain following a complaint from the George Soros-run group.

Niamh Uí Bhriain, spokesperson for the Life Institute, called the investigation a “hatchet job”, adding that the doctor is being investigated for “simply prescribing progesterone”.

“All that is involved in this procedure is the prescription of progesterone, which is used all the time in the treatment of miscarriages,” Ms Uí Bhriain said.

Ms Uí Bhriain believes the doctor has a strong case as she hasn’t prescribed anything illegal or that is not approved.

“It’s 100% a hatchet job, it’s a political decision, not a medical one,” she continued. “They are opposing because they oppose anything that might persuade a woman not to have an abortion.

If they wanted women to have freedom of choice, “surely they would support something that would give them more choice”, Ms Uí Bhriain said.
