Living life to the limit in Knock

The HUB in Knock was a hive of activity during the Michaela Foundation Summer Camp, when 55 girls aged 11-13 attended along with 20 leaders. Knock’s third year running the camp saw the ‘campettes’ enjoying a week of activities filled with fun and faith, with the aim of giving them a joyful environment in which to explore their religious beliefs and identity, thinking about the importance of leading a meaningful life while celebrating being themselves.

Over the week they did things as diverse as designing their own bags, ‘upstyling’ clothes they no longer wore, developed their knowledge of the Irish language through song, dance, fun and games, and engaged in drama and roleplay to help build self-confidence and see the beauty of themselves and others. The camp’s Faith element allowed the girls time to reflect on their faith and its meaning, learning about God and how placing faith at the centre of their lives would enable them to enjoy their lives fully.

The Michaela Foundation has run camps since 2012, inspired by the life of Michaela McAreavey; since then over 1,600 young girls have enjoyed the ‘life without limits’ experience.
