Irish people have raised over €1.3million for overseas development charity
The generosity of Irish people in raising over €1.3 million to help transform the lives of some of the world’s poorest children, has led an overseas development charity to open its first office in Ireland.
Since 2007, community groups all over the country have been fundraising for Mary’s Meals, a charity founded in Scotland that provides over 868,000 impoverished children with a daily meal in areas of the world where hunger often stands in the way of education.
Fundraising Co-ordinator, Aoife Martin, the first full-time member of staff in Ireland based at the new office at All Hallows College in Dublin, said Mary’s Meals has been amazed by the huge amount raised over the last seven years by individuals, churches, and community groups across Ireland.
Commitment
“The commitment to spending at least 93% of all donations on charitable activities is something Mary’s Meals takes very seriously and I think that’s part of the reason people really take the charity to heart,” Ms Martin said.
“It’s incredible to see how many people in Ireland have already taken Mary’s Meals to their hearts and committed to supporting the world’s poorest children, and I’m looking forward to helping grow the movement even further now the office is established in Dublin.”
