Members on both sides of abortion debate to get Fine Gael funding An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has agreed that party members who are not in favour of repealing the Eighth Amendment can use party funds to print campaign literature.

Fine Gael will not pay for posters as well as television, radio or newspaper advertising, in addition the party press office are not issuing comments in favour of either side of the debate.

However TDs will be able to print ‘Vote No’ leaflets.

This comes as some party members insisted that Fine Gael not campaign as a whole in favour of a repeal of the Eighth Amendment.

Party members have also been instructed not to face-off on TV or radio in relation to the issue, in the lead up to the referendum.

Within the cabinet, it is expected that Leo Varadkar, Simon Harris, Pascal Donohue, Richard Bruton, Regina Doherty, Katherine Zappone, Simon Coveney and Josepha Madigan will campaign for the repeal side.
