Mercy Sister survives car crash

A Belfast Sister of Mercy is seriously injured in hospital after a fatal road collision on the same motorway where two sisters from her order were killed last month.

The car of the 74-year-old nun was hit by a vehicle in which three young men were being pursued by the PSNI on the A1 near Carryduff, Co. Down. An 18-year-old passenger, Conal Daly, was killed in the crash. A 16-year-old was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a number of theft offences, but was released on bail.

Two Mercy sisters from Belfast, Sr Frances Forde and Sr Marie Duddy, died when their car collided with a police vehicle on the A1 outside Newry, Co. Down, on September 30.
