Children’s Minister James Reilly knew of controversial cuts in funding for Catholic marriage preparation courses four months in advance, according to reports. The scraping of €378,000 in funding to Accord was announced in May during the same-sex marriage referendum campaign.
However, according to The Sunday Business Post, the minister was briefed about the cuts days before meeting Accord’s president, Bishop Denis Nulty on January 19.
Bishop Nulty, who only found out about the cut in May, had described the January meeting as “constructive”.
